Let's Crochet!

Foundation Chain: Chain 2.

First Stitch: Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook and single crochet 1.

Second Stitch: Turn work clockwise and single crochet 1 in the side loop.

Third Stitch: Turn work clockwise and single crochet 1 in two side loops (There will be two loops for the rest of the pattern).

Repeat: Continue repeating third stitch until your cord is approximately 15 inches long or the desired length for your wrist.

Finishing the Cord: Once you've reached the desired length, fasten off by cutting the paper yarn and carefully pulling the tail through the last loop. Be mindful of the paper yarn's strength when pulling.

Attaching the Keychain: Thread the yarn tail onto your sewing needle. Carefully weave the needle through the loops at one end of the Romanian cord, creating a small, secure loop. Reinforce this loop, as paper yarn can be more prone to breakage than other yarns. The larger stitches made with the J-10 hook will make this weaving process easier.

Securing the Clasp: Attach the lobster clasp to the loop you just created with the sewing needle. You might need to make several passes to ensure the clasp is securely fastened. Wrap remaining yarn around the base of the cord 5 times. Weave in any remaining yarn tails to hide them, being careful to secure them well.

Tips and Variations for Paper Yarn:

  • Working with Paper Yarn: Paper yarn can have different textures and strengths depending on how it's made. Be gentle and avoid excessive pulling or tension, especially when weaving in ends.

  • Reinforcement: Consider adding a drop of fabric glue or clear nail polish to the knots and woven-in ends for extra security, especially where the clasp is attached.

  • Customization: Embellish your wristlet with beads, charms, or small pieces of fabric for a personalized touch. Consider adding a small tag made from recycled paper!

  • Care: Keep your paper yarn wristlet away from moisture.

Enjoy your unique and eco-friendly paper yarn wristlet keychain! It's a stylish and sustainable way to keep your keys organized and show off your crafting skills.
