How to Crochet Your Own Placemats for a Beautiful Dinner Table

Placemats are a great way to practice your crochet skills and give your table a special touch. I designed these classic placemats as a Christmas gift and fell in love with how quickly they worked up! I used one of my favorite eco-friendly yarns, Re-tweed by Lion Brand. The shade of green is perfect for Winter. This pattern would work well with multiple colors as well. I have a video tutorial on Pinterest for this project as well as a written pattern below. Enjoy!

Supplies used

• Re-tweed by Lion Brand (the color is Everglade)

• 6.5mm crochet hook• Scissors

• Tapestry needle

Pattern:

Notes: The beginning chain always counts as the first stitch. Slip stitch each round to close.

Round 1

• Magic circle (substitute: chain 3 slip stitched together)

• Chain 2 

• 14 DC (double crochet) (15 stitches total)

Round 2:

• Chain 2

• 2 DC in each stitch around (30 stitches total)

Round 3:

• Chain 2

• Alternate 1 DC & 2 DC in each stitch around (45 stitches total)

Round 4:

• Chain 4 

• Skip one stitch

• Double crochet two together (DC2tog) in the same stitch

• Chain 2 

• Skip a stitch

• DC2tog in the same stitch

• Repeat pattern all the way around

Round 5:

• Single crochet (SC) in each stitch around 

Round 6:

• Chain 3

• Triple crochet (TC) in the next 5 stitches 

• Add 6th TC in the same stitch as the 5th. 

• Repeat by doing 5 TCs and 6th in the same space as 5th all the way around.

Round 7:

• Repeat round 4

Round 8:• Repeat round 5

Tie-off ends and finished
